New ink

I came up with this idea awhile back for a new piece that will go on my arm. This was done on wacom free-hand. It represents my Grandmother and Grandfather (R.I.P) and their love for one another. I had written a short story symbolizing them as great oaks right before my Grandmother passed away. I have the basics inked on my left arm that was done on last Sunday. Though its a hard for me to have this because it reminds me they are no longer here; it is also helping me to always remember everything they stood for. Family.

5min Studies

I always believe that life drawing is the single most important thing to an animator or any artist really. Keeping a constant grip on anatomy is extremely important in all aspects of art. Though a character may have a large head to maybe show that he’s an egg-head; he still needs the rest of the body to flow with him and be sized accordingly. This is a 5min.

This is another 5min study I did in the same sitting. They are from live models that I saw at the park. I looked beyond the clothes to see the true form of the body. I start all of my studies with working around the body in circles. Having a line of action and then just using circles for my proportions. Then shading comes next with the hatching effect. I would use more polished shadings on longer studies. I did notice that the footing on the man was kinda funky. Also the arms on it was really weird. But I really like how the 2 turned out over all.

Ghangus Khan Concept

I came up with this idea awhile back for a Ghangus Khan character. But I thought I'd throw a twist in there and make him feminine. And for comedy purpose make him plump! I started out here by trying out different little hats and round little faces.

After some decision making I came up with this design. I did a lot of research on the time frame of his time. A lot of his costume design came from that era of soldiers in his part of the world. And even though I did like the costume design the "gay" look was a little to weird in this one to me. Plus the anatomy in this is reallllllly off. Enough said back to the drawing board.

During my lunch yesterday, I went back and tried for a new look. I love the boots and they are actually from the same time era. Although they are more middle Eastern some Asian countries did pick up on this fashion. I made his feminine qualities more subdued this time around and kept the proportions more readable for his silhouette. I want to add some beads and like a little sword maybe. I'll keep posting up more of him as I progress.
